Gavi responds to Paris transfer rumors: I only want to play for Barcelona

Recent reports have suggested that Barcelona’s young midfielder Gavi may leave the club to join French giants Paris Saint-Germain. However, the youngster quickly came forward to clarify that he has no such plans and is fully committed to continuing his career at Barcelona.

Gavi, born in 2004, is a highly promising player. However, he did not get much playing time last season. Throughout the entire La Liga season, he only participated in 26 matches, averaging less than a third of the playing time per game. Why was that? Mainly because he suffered an injury earlier, with ligament issues forcing him to sit out nearly the entire year. Additionally, head coach Hans Flick’s lineup decisions further limited Gavi’s playing time.

When a player doesn’t get regular game time, speculation about his future begins to surface. Some media reports have suggested that France national team coach Luis Enrique is interested in him and hopes to bring him to Paris Saint-Germain. It is said that Enrique highly appreciates Gavi’s technical abilities and believes he could fit well into his tactical system.

However, Gavi himself does not agree with these rumors. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, he made it clear: “I know many people like to believe what the media says, and I understand that. But I will not leave Barcelona for Paris.”

He spoke firmly: “I am doing well and feeling calm right now. My dream has never changed—to dedicate my entire career to Barcelona. This is my favorite team and the stage where I most want to succeed.
I don’t want to change places, I will work hard to get more opportunities.“

There are also rumors that Gavi and coach Flick are at odds because he is not a regular starter for the team. But Gavi denied this. He said: ”I have a very good relationship with coach Flick, everyone can see that. He cares about every player and supports us a lot. He played a big role in Barcelona’s success last season.”

Currently, Gavi is training with the Spanish national team. He missed the 2024 European Championship due to injury, and his return to the national team has made him very happy. “I’m thrilled to wear the Spanish national team jersey again. I haven’t played for the national team in a long time since my injury. It feels great to be back and reunited with my teammates.”

When discussing the future, Gavi is full of anticipation: “I hope to participate in the World Cup next year. That’s one of my goals. I believe that with hard work and maintaining my form, I’ll have the opportunity to achieve this dream.”
