Deciding to Visit Montilivi
So I’ve been wanting to catch a football match in Spain for ages, right? But Camp Nou tickets cost an arm and a leg. Then my mate Dave goes “Why not try Girona’s Montilivi stadium instead?” Looked it up and damn, tickets were way cheaper. Booked Ryanair months early – paid like 30 quid return from London. Smart move.
Snagging Match Tickets
Checked Girona FC’s official site last Tuesday. Was sweating buckets – derby against Espanyol was sold out main page. Then clicked “hospitality packages” section bam! They had seats left for 45€ including free beer tapas. Normal seats were 35€ anyway so why not? Paid extra 10€ for mobile ticket download – ain’t trusting mail delivery to my hostel.
Getting There Cheap
Took morning train from Barcelona Sants. Bought round-trip ticket same time saved 4€. Protip bring water snacks for ride vendors rip you off proper. Got off at Girona station – massive queue for taxis. Walked 15 mins past university campus shortcut saved 12€ fare. Stadiums tiny anyway saw it from blocks away.
Stadium Tour Scam Alert
Match ended early so checked tours. 15€ my arse! They wanted cash for walking round plastic seats pitchside that you see free during halftime. Asked security guard where team exits instead waited 45 mins near parking lot got autographs from 4 players. Saved money made better memories innit.

Tickets: Check hospitality section midweek matches – often same price
Transport: Walk from station takes 20 mins max – follow students
Merch: Avoid stadium shop – city center stores sell same scarves half price

Ended up spending under 100€ whole day. Saw banging football Cristhian Stuani scored bicycle kick! Moral is skip fancy tours make friends with locals – bartender tipped me off where players drink. Left with signed jersey better than any 15€ stadium selfie tour.
