Who won Girona Celta de Vigo match? (Player stats and team comparison revealed!)

Who won Girona Celta de Vigo match? (Player stats and team comparison revealed!)

So this morning I was sipping coffee wondering what happened in that Girona vs Celta game last night. My buddy texted me about it being a nail-biter, but he couldn’t remember the final score either. Figured I’d dig into it myself – stats don’t lie, right?

Started Simple: Hunting Down the Score

Grabbed my laptop, fired up the browser. Straight to my usual footy sites – those live score trackers. Damn thing was clogged with pop-ups though, nearly clicked some dodgy “celebrity quiz” twice. Annoying, but finally found a clean page with just the numbers.

    The basics flashed at me:

  • Full-Time Result: Girona 1 – 0 Celta Vigo
  • Goal: Artem Dovbyk (23rd minute)
  • Red Card: Carl Starfelt (Celta, 58th min)

Okay, got the headline. Girona scraped the win. But that red card… made me think the game probably got messy. Needed more meat!

Diving Into the Player Guts

Wanted to see who actually played well beyond the goal scorer. Clicked through tabs looking for player stats. Found this heat map thingy first – useless to me. Too squiggly. Finally got to the good stuff:

Who won Girona Celta de Vigo match? (Player stats and team comparison revealed!)

    Stuff that jumped out:

  • Dovbyk (Girona): Obviously the goal, but only 2 shots all game? Mostly fed others.
  • Savio (Girona): This kid ran riot! 4 key passes, 7 dribbles – they should’ve scored more off his work.
  • Tsygankov (Girona): Had 3 shots, all blocked. Felt bad for him – rough luck.
  • Iago Aspas (Celta): Nearly invisible! Only 1 shot? Star man choked.
  • Jorgen Strand Larsen (Celta): Worked hard, 4 shots, but 0 on target. Oof.

Also saw Girona’s keeper Paulo Gazzaniga had like, 4 saves? Made one big one late on apparently. Solid shift.

The Big Team Picture

Figured I should look at both squads side-by-side to see why Girona edged it despite Celta dominating possession later? Found a comparison chart.

    Team Stats Snapshot:

  • Possession: 53% Celta – 47% Girona
  • Shots: Girona 14, Celta 11
  • Shots on Target: Girona 5, Celta 1
  • Big Chances: Girona 3, Celta 0
  • Corners: Girona 9, Celta 4

Ha! Told a story. Celta had the ball after the red card but did SQUAT with it. That single shot on target says it all – toothless. Girona were more dangerous when they went forward, created better chances. Bet they’re kicking themselves for only scoring one, honestly.

So yeah, Girona won 1-0. Dovbyk the hero upfront, Savio the engine, Gazzaniga reliable at the back. Celta? Aspas anonymous, Starfelt screwing them with the red, and zero punch in attack after going down a man. Those stats don’t lie. Glad I looked it up – saved me arguing with my mate later!
